The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team moves outdoors for the first time this weekend.  The Mocs host North Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) on the UTC Tennis Courts.

Admission to UTC matches is always free.  A link for live scoring is available on the men's tennis schedule page on

Chattanooga is off to its best start since the 2006 season with a 5-2 overall record.  The Mocs have won three-straight, including a pair of 4-3 wins over Belmont and Gardner-Webb at the Hixson Racquet club last weekend.  Their losses have come against No. 71 Radford (0-7) and at Middle Tennessee (1-6).

Junior Jackson Tresnan (Apopka, Fla.) leads the team with a 6-1 singles mark.  He is also 5-0 at the No. 5 position in dual matches.  Fellow junior Roberto Vieira (Bedfordview, South Africa) is 8-7 overall and holds down the No. 1 slot where he is 4-3.

Junior Chris Smith (Johnson City, Tenn.) has moved up to No. 2 in the lineup where he is 5-1 this spring, including three-straight wins.  Junior Ankit Chopra (Chandigrah, India) is 4-2 at No. 3 while fellow junior Manuel Barroetavena (Buenos Aires, Argentina) is 3-2 since entering the lineup at No. 4.  Pencil Tresnan in at the fifth spot with freshman Pavels Grigorjevs (Riga, Latvia) or junior Stephen Crofford holding down No. 6.

Smith and Vieira are 3-4 as the No. 1 doubles team while Chopra and junior Stephen Crofford are 3-4 at No. 2.  The No. 3 squad could include any combination of Grigorjevs, Tresnan and sophomore Orlando Lourenco (Hixson, Tenn.).

North Alabama is a Division II member of the NCAA, but has played two other Division I teams to start the season.  The Lions opened with a 7-0 loss to Murray State on Feb. 5 and a 6-1 loss to Jacksonville State on Feb. 10.

Rain is in the forecast for late Saturday, but should not affect the match.  However, competition will move to the indoor courts at the Manker Patten Tennis Center in case of inclement weather.
