The Citadel is 4-10 overall and 0-4 in SoCon action. The Bulldogs host Samford (3/21) and Chicago (3/23) before the Mocs visit on Saturday, March 24, at 1:00 p.m. UTC posted a 7-0 win over The Citadel in last year's match.
The College of Charleston is 7-3 overall and in second place in the SoCon race at 2-0. UTC is looking to snap a five-match losing streak to the Cougars this weekend. The Mocs' last victory in the series was a 4-3 road victory on March 10, 2008. Match time against CofC is set for 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 25. The Cougars host first-place Samford (10-2, 4-0 SoCon) on Friday before the Mocs visit.
The Mocs are off to their best start since 2008 with a 10-4 record. UTC has already surpassed last year's win total and has the most victories in a season since posting a 12-10 record in 2008. Chattanooga is 2-2 in SoCon matches and currently in fifth place in the league race.
Junior Manuel Barroetavena (Buenos Aires, Argentina) leads the team with a 14-6 record. He is 4-0 in SoCon matches and 8-2 at No. 4 this spring. He is currently on a seven-match winning streak and is 9-1 in his last 10 outings.
Freshman Pavels Grigorjevs (Riga, Latvia) is also on a seven-match winning streak and has a 4-0 SoCon record. He is 10-6 overall and 7-2 at the No. 6 position. Junior Jackson Tresnan (Apopka, Fla.) was the SoCon Player of the Month for February and has a 10-4 singles record. He is 8-2 at No. 5.
Junior Roberto Vieira (Bedfordview, South Africa) is a two-time All-SoCon performer who has been battling a nagging foot injury over the last two weeks. He is 11-10 in singles and 7-6 at No. 1.
The doubles lineup continues to be tweaked, but Barroetavena and Tresnan have won their last two at No. 2 and are 3-0 as a pair. Juniors Sam Parfitt (Norwich, England) and Stephen Crofford (Franklin, Tenn.) are also seeing recent action in the doubles lineup.
