A Look Back at 2012 as the Calendar Shifts to 2013

Now that 2013 is upon us, the Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team looks to continue to build on the momentum the program has built over the previous five seasons of competition. The year 2012 was yet another championship campaign. Let's look back on the highlights.

- Chattanooga claimed its third straight Southern Conference Championship in dramatic fashion. Trailing by more than 20 strokes midway through the second round, the ladies mounted a charge for the ages.  Down two in the final round through 16 holes, the Mocs out-dueled UNCG down the stretch for a three-shot win.

- Jordan Britt captured the SoCon individual title by three shots over UNCG's Fanny Cnops, who was the 32nd ranked player in the country at the time. It marked back-to-back years UTC swept the team and medalist honors (Emma de Groot). Britt's two-year record is impeccable at the conference championship as she was runner-up as a freshman to de Groot in 2011.

- For the fifth time in five seasons of competition, the Mocs competed in NCAA Regional play, the fourth consecutive as a team. Departing senior Maria Juliana Loza added to her sterling postseason reputation with a top 20 at the NCAA East Regional, her second after finishing in the top 10 in 2011.

- Chattanooga boasted its first professional in de Groot. She earned her way onto the Symetra Tour ranking in the top 50 in eagle (32nd), greens in regulation (46) and average driving distance (48).

- Former UTC star Christine Wolf joined de Groot in the professional ranks late in 2012 but made the most of her opportunities. She won the Crete Ladies Open in just her second start on the LET (Ladies European Tour) Access Tour becoming the first Mocs women's golfer to win a professional event. She then went on to get within an eyelash of full statues on the LET before falling just shy in the final round of Q School. Wolf said, "I have full status on the LET Access Tour and partial on the LET. A majority of the year I'll play Access events and I might play a few tournaments in Florida on the SunCoast Ladies Series."

- The Mocs ended the 2012 fall schedule with a bang. The squad won the Lady Paladin Invitational for the 13th win in the program's history. Marion Duvernay claimed her first collegiate win in the event. Chattanooga has won an event every season of competition under Colette Murray.

- Academically, UTC ranked No. 10 among NCAA Division I institutions, in combined grade point average. The Mocs posted a 3.621 which nearly matched the 3.649 in 2011 which was No. 13.

- Loza and Mette Kryger earned NGCA All-American Scholar honors. Each record perfect 4.0's for the 2011-12 academic year. Britt, Duvernay and Sophie Weilguni joined the duo as all five UTC golfer made the Dean's List. Loza was also tabbed CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District for a variety of spring sports.
