The match with the Governors is set for 4:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at The Baylor School in Chattanooga. Admission to all UTC men's tennis home matches is always free. Live scoring will be available with a link located on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com. The Murray State contest is 1:00 p.m. at the Kenlake Tennis Center in Hardin, Ky.
UTC is 4-1 on the year and enjoying its best start to the season since going 8-1 in 2008. After opening the spring with a 5-2 loss to No. 63 Georgia State, the Mocs have won four straight, including a 6-1 win over Jacksonville State and a 7-0 sweep of North Alabama last week.
Austin Peay has lost both of its matches this spring, a 5-2 defeat at Southern Conference member Samford and a 4-3 loss to Southern Illinois. UTC and APSU last faced each other on Jan. 28, 2011, with the Governors posting a 6-1 win at the Hixson Racquet Club.
Murray State is looking for its first win of the season and will play three times this weekend. The Racers are 0-4, and host Abilene Christian on Thursday before traveling to Memphis on Saturday. The Mocs defeated the Racers 7-0 in last year's match on Jan. 27.
Senior Manuel Barroetavena (Buenos Aires, Argentina) leads the team with a 12-5 singles mark. He is 5-0 in the spring, playing mostly at No. 3. Senior Jackson Tresnan (Apopka, Fla.) is also undefeated in spring singles at 4-0. He has played the 4-6 spots in dual matches. Tresnan and Barroetavena have teamed up to go 3-0 in doubles action.
Head coach Carlos Garcia is in his 12th season at UTC, posting a 122-138 overall record. UTC has increased its win total in each of the last three seasons. The 14-9 mark in 2012 was the best record for the program since 2007.
The Mocs also set a program record with a 3.46 team grade-point-average in the fall. All nine members of the team made the Athletics Director's Honor Roll with a 3.0+ semester g.p.a., while seven made the Dean's List.
