Fox vs. Dunbar at Georgia Cup Thursday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga Mocs senior Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) is in Atlanta, Ga., for Thursday’s Georgia Cup match with British Amateur Champion Alan Dunbar. It is part of a very busy week for Fox who was named Southern Conference Golfer of the Week by the league office Wednesday.

Fox is coming off a runner-up finish at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate at Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss., Monday and Tuesday. He fired a career-best eight-under par 208 with rounds of 69, 69 and 70 to end up two shots behind Central Arkansas’ James Newton at minus 10.

It was a remarkably consistent 54 holes for the reigning United States Amateur Champion. He carded 10 birdies, 42 pars and a mere two bogeys over the 7,305-yard tract.

Fox is Atlanta Thursday for the Georgia Cup, an 18 hole charity match between the current U.S. and British Amateur champs. Fox and Dunbar square off at the Golf Club of Georgia Lakeside Course at 1:05 p.m., with tickets costing a $25 donation to the Georgia State Golf Association and Folds of Honor Foundation. Billy Casper is the honorary captain for the event.

Following the Georgia Cup, Fox and Dunbar head east to Augusta for the Masters. Fox is currently slated to play practice rounds with Phil Mickelson, Brian Gay and Brandt Snedeker.
