Incoming freshman Ewan Scott (St. Andrews, Scotland) continued his fantastic summer earning a spot on the Scottish entry in the European Men’s Team Championship in Denmark. Scott and his squad qualified for the championship finishing fifth in stroke play as the top eight advanced.

The Scots beat Germany in a hard-fought quarterfinal affair 4-3. They followed with a 4.5-2.5 win over France, the top seed by virtue of the best total in stroke play, to meet rival England in the final. The English capture the trophy with a 4.5-2.5 win.

It is a significant accomplishment for an 18-year old to make his country’s squad especially on one is a talent-rich place. He acquitted himself well throughout with a 1-2-1 record. His lone singles match was halved in the final against England matching Nathan Kimsey, the 13th-ranked player in the world. He and partner Jack Ross claimed a convincing 3&2 win against France to open that match over a duo that included 2013 Ben Hogan Award finalist Julien Brun (TCU).

Scott is currently ranked No. 191 in the world which is the top ranking on the Mocs squad.

Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) played for the Sutherland Chalice at Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club. Robb battled back from an opening 75 (+5) to shoot six-over par 286 closing with a 68 (-2). Johnston struggled in the final round ending up at 294.

Robb also competed at the Cameron Corbett Vase the weekend prior. He shot four-over 292 with consistent cards. He turned in scores of 73, 72, 74 and 73 for two 36-hole days.

There are six events left including next week’s trip to Boise, Idaho for the Albertsons Boise Open.

Derek Rende (2007-10) is coming off a runner-up finish at the Magnolia Bluffs Casino Classic where he fired a 17-under par 271 finishing four off Ryan Blaum’s pace. That performance followed a tie for 14th at the Florida Marine Open over fourth of July weekend.
