The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team is set to open play in the 2013-14 season. The season opens Friday night as the Lady Mocs take on the University of Alabama in the second game of a doubleheader at the McKenzie Arena.

This will be the first regular season game for head coach Jim Foster, the fifth coach to take the reigns at Chattanooga. Foster inherited a team with 10 returning letterwinners including six seniors. Against Lee in the exhibition, senior Taylor Hall led UTC with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Classmate Meghan Downes scored seven of her nine points in the final six minutes to lead Chattanooga on an 11-2 run for the win. She had two steals including one to end the game and secure the win. Senior Faith Dupree pulled down a team-high nine rebounds in the win with seven points while junior Ka’Vonne Towns had eight points and two steals.

ALABAMA • KRISTY CURRY
OVERALL: 0-0 • SEC: 0-0
The Tide secured a 73-31 win over West Alabama in their exhibition forcing 36 turnovers and holding UWA to just 27.7 percent shooting. Shafontaye Myers led all scorers with 19 points and had five steals. Nikki Hegstetter was the only other Tide player in double figures with 12 oints on 4-of-7 shooting. Eight other Alabama players found the net while Daisha Simmons, with six points, led the Tide with seven rebounds. Alabama shot 42.2 percent in the exhibition but managed just 2-of-14 from the 3-point line.

CHATTANOOGA vs. ALABAMA
UTC is 5-5 against the Crimson Tide and have won three of the last four meetings including two at home. Last year the Lady Mocs defeated Alabama 72-58 at Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa.

FOSTER vs. ALABAMA
Jim Foster posted an 84-53 record against the SEC while at Vanderbilt and has an overall record of 9-3 against Alabama with St. Joseph’s and the Commodores.
