University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s tennis head coach Jeff Clark announced the signing of the top prep player in Tennessee today. Baylor School senior Samantha Caswell inked a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Mocs next fall.
A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., Caswell led Baylor to three-straight Division II-AA state team titles and is a three-time Chattanooga Times Free Press Best of Preps Player of the Year. She is four-star prospect according to Tennisrecruiting.net and ranked No. 105 in the nation by the same online publication.
“It is exciting to have someone of Samantha’s caliber to join our program,” stated head coach Jeff Clark. “She has been one of the top players in the USTA southern section throughout her junior career. I know she is going to have a great impact on our team in singles and doubles.”
Caswell is undefeated in singles since her sophomore season and has not lost in doubles since her freshman year. She advanced to the Round of 64 at the USTA Girl’s 18s Nationals in San Diego in August after winning two matches in the main draw. She has also led Baylor to three straight DecoTurf National High School Championships.
Caswell joins a growing tradition of top prep players in the region choosing the Lady Mocs. Junior Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) and sophomore Kayla Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) were both No. 2 in their classes in Tennessee when they signed with UTC. Sophomore Kelsey Coots (Huntsville, Ala.) was the No. 1 player in her class in Alabama.
The Lady Mocs are coming off an 18-5 overall record in 2013, the most wins for the program since 1991. Chattanooga has wrapped up fall action and is training for the 2014 dual match season that begins in January. Chattanooga hosts the Southern Conference Tournament at the Champions Club on April 16-19, 2014.
