Signing Day Quotes

Chattanooga Mocs Basketball Signing Day
Quote Sheet – Will Wade
November 15, 2013

Wade on the class as a whole:
“We’re very pleased with the overall class. It’s very rare in recruiting that you sit down coming out of the summer, put your list together of four or five guys, and you are able to get the guys you want. We were able to do that. It’s a credit to the staff. The staff did a really good job getting in there with these guys, figuring out what we needed, what we wanted and honing in on them and getting them signed.

“Each of them is long, athletic and plays very, very fast. In fact, we are going to have to slow some of them down which is what you want. Most of them played in a pressing system in high school or junior college. They complement our roster. We wanted to get some help in the shooting department, address our athleticism and we wanted guys that fit our style of play. We certainly addressed all three with this class.”

Wade on junior college forward Duke Ethridge:
“He’s a man. He’s a little bit older…been through the battles. He was Georgia Junior College Freshman of the Year…he’s a good player. He fits our mismatch position very well here. He can do multiple things. He can shoot the three, beat you in the post and he is very physical. He plays hard and gets after it.”

Wade on high school guard Brandon Maxwell:
“Maxwell is extremely quick…lightning quick with the ball. He can play the one or two. He’s not really a true point or a true shooting guard. Really, really shoots the ball and has unbelievable confidence. He has a great spirit about him. He’s a happy kid, always smiling, always excited…never has a bad day type of guy. We’re excited about his shooting ability, but he was the best on-ball defender we saw this summer. He really hounds and engulfs the ball.”

Wade on junior college guard Jacolby Mobley:
“Mobley is a smaller combo guard. He brings a great attitude we need. He’s just a winner, a competitor. He competes at everything…video games, checkers, you name it. We need some competitive guys that absolutely cannot stand to lose. He’s a winner. He won in high school, he’s a winner in junior college and we look forward to him instilling some of that winning culture and attitude into our program.”

Wade on high school guard Shaq Preston:
“Shaq Preston is a tremendous talent. Long and athletic, his jump shot is developing. One thing I love about Shaq is what I call competitive greatness. He’s always at his best when the game is on the line or when it is the biggest point in the game. Great wing defender…it looks like there are two of him out there. He looks like Chaos on the floor.”
