MBB Postgame Quotes vs Morehead State - Nov. 28, 2013
Head Coach Will Wade
Thoughts on the game

“Their point guard is a good player. He first signed with Utah of the Pac-12. We were able to turn him over a couple of times and frustrated him, but we couldn’t keep him out of the paint. Our half court defense seemed to get driven on from any spot. They were quicker than us at all three guard spots. They just got a head of steam and drove it, at will, to the rim. Billy Reader, the big kid, had his way with us inside, and we didn’t do our work early enough in the post. We gave up too many easy looks to them. Morehead is a really good team. They are the second best team we’ve played. I thought we did some good things but we didn’t do enough. You can’t give up that many easy shots and expect to win.”

Thoughts on Z. Mason’s play
“He didn’t foul. He had two fouls in the first half. Our play book is really cut in half when he is out. There is a lot of stuff we run with him, and we run him as a decoy on some stuff that opens things for other guys. When he is out it really hurts us. We just made an effort to get him the ball in the second half. You want your better players to take the shots, and Gee and Z obviously shot the ball a lot tonight. One thing that is important for us is that we need a third scorer to step up so we can win these types of games. Z and Gee, even Pryor scored a little bit, but we need a third or fourth guy to step up and score for us. Sometimes it’s Alex and sometimes it’s Marty, but we didn’t get that tonight.”

Thoughts on the game as compared to the UCLA loss
“Our effort was much better. They are a great team. Our team battled and we wanted to make some guys beat us. Reader hit some shots tonight that he hadn’t hit all year. We did a good job of guarding the three-point line, but part of that was opening up some driving lanes. We only gave up two offensive rebounds to Posthumus, which was good, but we just couldn’t clean it up enough. We couldn’t force them to miss enough. Our effort was good and I am pleased with that, but we need to be ready to play tomorrow and win. We need to be excited and enthusiastic to play. We have a great opportunity against IUPUI. But we have to go out tonight, have a great Thanksgiving and be thankful that we’re out here.

Z. Mason, senior, forward
Thoughts on his performance
“I had foul trouble early, so I wanted to come out and be aggressive in the second half. Our team fought back at the end of the second half. I wanted to come back and give us a chance in the second half.”

On the play of Morehead State
“They are a tough group of guys, all the way down from their point to their center. They crash the glass hard and are tough on defense. They go hard on both sides of the court.”

Thoughts on the Mocs’ effort
“I thought the effort was good, but I thought that we gave up a lot of easy baskets to the rim. We didn’t really make them work for a lot of their baskets, but coming off the loss to UCLA made us want to come out and prove that wasn’t the type of team we are. We tried to correct some things but we just came up short tonight.”

On going against IUPUI tomorrow
“We just have to come out and be hungry. We have to put this loss behind us. It’s a quick turnaround tomorrow, and we have to be ready to play a team who is hungry for a win too. We have to attack and be aggressive.”
