Mocs Host Georgia Southern, Visit App State This Weekend

The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team gets back to Southern Conference action with a pair of matches this weekend.  The Mocs host Georgia Southern on Friday, April 4, and visit Appalachian State on Sunday, April 6.

Chattanooga is coming off a 7-0 sweep of Lee University on Wednesday.  UTC is 6-10 overall and 1-5 in SoCon matches.  Sophomore Gino Delavalle is 7-3 in his last 10 matches and 3-3 in league singles action.  He is also 7-5 at No. 4 this spring.

The Mocs host the Eagles at 2:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) on Friday.  The match is currently scheduled for the UTC Tennis Courts, but rain is forecasted in the Chattanooga area on Friday.  The Hixson Racquet Club serves as the indoor backup in the case of inclement weather.

Georgia Southern is currently 3-15 overall and 2-4 in SoCon action.  Oliver Webb leads the team with a 4-2 mark in league play at No. 1.

The Mocs are 16-10 all-time against Georgia Southern, including last year’s 6-1 win in Statesboro, Ga. Chattanooga has won the last three meetings in the series with the Eagles.

First serve against the Mountaineers is set for 11:00 a.m. in Boone, N.C.  ASU is 7-10 overall and 4-1 in SoCon action, following a tough 4-3 loss to No. 75 Furman today.  Jack Maddocks is undefeated at 5-0 in SoCon play at No. 5.  ASU had not lost a conference match at No. 1 or No. 2 doubles.  The Mountaineers travel to UNCG on Saturday before hosting the Mocs on Sunday.

Chattanooga is 21-13 all-time against Appalachian State.  Last year’s 6-1 win at home snapped a six-match skid against the Mountaineers.
