Wendorf Earns National Recognition from N4A

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics Academic Advisor Lindsey Wendorf earned the prestigious Professional Promise Award from the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) at the organization’s annual convention last weekend.  The honor is given on a yearly basis to one member from each of N4A’s five regions.

Wendorf just finished her third year as an Academic Advisor for the Mocs.  She is currently working with the women’s basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball and men's & women's golf programs.  Her responsibilities include monitoring student-athletes' progress towards degree and NCAA eligibility.  She also provides advisement on course selection, graduation and career planning, as well as scheduling tutoring and other academic assistance to student-athletes.

The N4A Professional Promise Award honors "new" professionals who serve student-athletes and who have dedicated their energy to the Association and its mission. Winners must have been N4A members for more than one year but fewer than five years.

During the 2012-13 academic year, five of the six teams Wendorf advises posted a 3.0 grade-point-average in both semesters.  She had 11 student-athletes earn Academic All-SoCon recognition, with the spring awards still to be announced.  Women’s basketball set a program record with a 3.40 g.p.a. in the fall.  Volleyball tied its program record with 11 on the Athletics Director’s Honor both semesters while senior Christina Teter became the first Academic All-American in team history.

Wendorf was also a part of the process that led to the Mocs becoming the first in the Southern Conference to earn full N4A Certification.  The entire Student Support Services staff has been certified on an individual basis since 2011.

The N4A is an educational service and professional organization dedicated to promoting academic advisement and counseling to athletics. Formed in 1975, N4A has a diverse membership representing hundreds of professionals, nationwide, working to empower student-athletes to become more productive individuals through educational and personal development.
