The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics Department took home a Gold Award in the annual “Best of” competition conducted by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA). The winners of the “Best of” awards were announced during the Kickoff session at the 24th annual NACMA Convention in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday, June 10.
The Mocs earned the award in the New Revenue Generating Idea category for the Candlelight Dinner Wrestling Match. This unique event took place on Dec. 16, 2013, when the Mocs hosted Gardner-Webb in Maclellan Gym.
The goal for that evening was to create an experience, rather than just a wrestling match, by providing fans with an intimate setting to be engaged with our wrestling program. Fans who purchased a dinner ticket received first-class treatment from the moment they arrived.
Valet parking, candlelight ambiance, mat-side seating with a catered meal and excellent Division I wrestling highlighted a very successful evening. Dinner tickets were available for $400 for an eight-person table or individually for $50 each. All totaled, 74 seats were sold to the event, resulting in a significant revenue increase from a normal match.
Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Best of Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness.
Over the past five years, the Mocs have won 13 NACMA ‘Best of’ Awards. This year’s Gold Award was the fifth.
