SoCon Honor Roll Released, Mocs Tops in 4.0's

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga athletics program placed 142 student-athletes on the 2013-14 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll while leading the league with 17 Mocs achieving a 4.0 grade point average.  The SoCon Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who participated in varsity sports at member institutions and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher during the 2012-13 academic year.

A total of 1,915 student-athletes from 11 member institutions earned recognition for academic achievement.  Of the nearly 2,000 student-athletes on the list, 873 earned the Commissioner’s Medal, awarded annually to student-athletes who attain a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher throughout the year. Including Chattanooga’s 17 4.0’s, 75 were awarded the Commissioner’s Medal.

The football team paced UTC with 23 recognized by the conference.  Women’s cross country/track & field followed up with 17 while both softball and women’s soccer had 16.  Men’s cross country/track & field totaled 12 honorees, and women’s basketball, volleyball and wrestling added 11 each.  Men’s golf claimed seven, women’s tennis six and women’s golf five.  Men’s tennis had four on the honor roll and men’s basketball had three.
