14 Mocs Earn Winter Academic All-SoCon Honors

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga put 14 student-athletes on the 2011-12 Winter Academic All-Southern Conference team, the league office announced today.  The Winter Academic All-SoCon team is made up of representatives from men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field, and wrestling.

Chris Berry (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), a senior on the track & field team, was one of 16 individuals in the league to have a 4.0 cumulative g.p.a.  He was joined on the Academic All-SoCon squad by teammates Mark Cole (McKenzie, Tenn.), Lucas Cotter (Collierville, Tenn.), John Gilpin (Nashville, Tenn.), Nathan Wanuch (Missiauga, Ontario), Drew Austell (Memphis, Tenn.), and Emmanuel Kirwa (Kapsabet, Kenya).   

To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average entering the winter season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.

Kayla Christopher (Oliver Springs, Tenn.)  and Taylor Hall (New Tazewell, Tenn.) represented the women's basketball team while Dean Pavlou (Cleveland, Tenn.) and Brandon Wright (Germantown, Tenn.) were named from the wrestling squad. 

The women's track & field team had three honored, including Morgan Buchanan (Johnson City, Tenn.), Kathryn Stuart (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Tara Gietema-Berry (Knoxville, Tenn.).
