The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga athletics department held the annual Porky’s Open golf tournament at Council Fire Golf Club today. A record 34 teams took part in the afternoon event. Prizes were awarded for five flights with two golfers taking home huge awards for aces on two of the par-3s.
The big winner at the event was Mark Weiss who pocketed $15,000 for a hole-in-one on the par-3 12th hole. He rolled in an eight iron from 160 yards out to win the prize of the day.
Not to be outdone, Hiren Desai followed with an ace of his own on No. 7. Despite the endless heckling from basketball coaches John Shulman and Wes Moore, Desai slid in a nine-iron from 142-yards. He won a new set of Callaway irons for his shot.
This was the 13th year of the Porky’s Open, created to benefit student-athlete scholarships at UTC. The event has raised well over $1 million for the Mocs and, with this year’s record participation, that number is sure to grow.
