Mocs Tie Program Record For Semester G.P.A.
The student-athletes at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga tied a program record with a 2.97 departmental grade-point-average for the 2012 spring semester.  This is the fourth straight term the Mocs posted at least a 2.92 and the sixth consecutive semester more than half of the student-athletes made the Athletics Director's Honor Roll with a 3.0 or higher g.p.a.

"I am very proud of our student-athletes' work in the classroom," stated Director of Athletics Rick Hart.  "Our program has a clearly stated vision of establishing comprehensive excellence as the UTC standard, and this is another example of how we are working towards that goal."

UTC began formally tracking the combined g.p.a. of student-athletes in 2007.  The chart below shows the increases since that time and the current 2.97 tying the benchmark set in the spring of 2011.  It also shows that UTC has increased its overall student-athlete g.p.a. in seven of the last eight terms.  The increase from the 2.92 g.p.a. in the fall of 2011 to the current 2.97 is the second largest improvement in the same academic year on record.

A total of 147 Mocs made the AD Honor Roll, nearly 57% of all student-athletes at UTC.  That is the highest percentage of Mocs with a 3.0 or higher in one semester.  This number included 114 on the Dean's List (3.2+ g.p.a.) and a school-record-tying 33 with a 4.0 g.p.a.

"We will continue to set the bar high with the ultimate goal of maintaining a 3.0 g.p.a. across the board," added Hart.  "Our Student Support Services unit, led by Dr. Emily Blackman, continues to look for better ways to guide, encourage and support our student-athletes in their work in the classroom and our coaches, staff and student-athletes are all committed to achieving this goal."

There were a total of 10 teams that posted a 3.0 g.p.a. or better, led by women's golf with a program record 3.72.  All six members of the 2012 Southern Conference Champions made the Dean's List.  Three of the Mocs had a perfect 4.0 g.p.a. while participating in a rigorous playing schedule in the spring.

Seven of the eight members of the women's tennis team made the Dean's List with four posting a 4.0 g.p.a.  The Lady Mocs also had a program record with a 3.66 team g.p.a.  The men's basketball team also had a program record with its 2.56 g.p.a., set a new mark with seven members on the AD Honor Roll and tied a previous high with three on the Dean's List.

There were some impressive individuals among the school-record-tying 33 Mocs who had a 4.0 g.p.a. in the spring.  Women's golfer Jordan Britt and wrestling's Dean Pavlou and Brandon Wright all won SoCon individual titles while posting a perfect 4.0.  Kaylene Chadwell also had a 4.0 in the same semester she was named the SoCon Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year.

The Mocs had 10 teams record a 3.0 g.p.a. for the 2012 spring semester, including:
Women's Golf - 3.72*
Women's Tennis - 3.66*
Women's Cross Country - 3.57
