The Chattanooga Lady Mocs softball team (12-9) led off the USF Under Armour Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. with back-to-back wins over Toledo (5-9) and Wagner (0-6) Friday evening. Taylor Deason (Clarksville, Tenn.) earned her 10th win over the season in the 9-0 win over Toledo while freshman pitcher Rachel Albritton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) tallied her first career win with the 9-2 win over Wagner. In both games, the Chattanooga offense totaled 30 hits in support of its pitching staff.

Chattanooga 9 - Toledo 0
The Lady Mocs began the day with a shutout of the Toledo Rockets. UTC out-hit the Rockets 18-4 while six Lady Mocs recorded multiple hits. Both Sara Poteat (Thomaston, Ga.) and Alyssa Taylor (Orange, Calif.) led Chattanooga with four hits while Taylor drove in a team-high five runs. The four hits and five RBI are a career high for Taylor.

Despite scoreless first innings for both teams, Chattanooga began its scoring with two runs in the top of the second inning. A two-out rally led by Ninjja Suetsugu (Sao Paulo, Brazil) began the inning for UTC. The senior singled up the middle and single from Sam Taylor (Chickamauga, Ga.) boarded two. Poteat followed through with a third hit to left to load the bases and Alyssa Taylor delivered with a two-RBI single to give Chattanooga its 2-0 lead.

Deason breezed through the bottom half on the second with a three-up-three-down inning before the UTC offense exploded for five runs on six hits. A double from Kasey Tydingco (Fairfield, Calif.) led off the inning and a Stephanie Rieck (Chandler, Ariz.) groundout moved the senior to third. Suetsugu singled up the middle to score Tydingco and Sam Taylor walked in the following at-bat. Poteat singled to lead the bases and Alyssa Taylor drove in two more on a single to center. After a pitching change mid-inning, freshman Anyssa Robles (Lawrenceville, Ga.) singled to drive in Poteat and a hit from Sarah Beth Roberts (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) resulted in another Lady Mocs' run.

Leading 7-0 going into the seventh inning, UTC tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the inning. Poteat reached on an error and stole second to set up yet another Alyssa Taylor RBI. The freshman singled to center to score Poteat, giving Chattanooga an 8-0 advantage. Taylor then stole second and scored on a Roberts' double to the left-center gap.

Deason threw seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five Toledo batters. The solo shutout is her first of the season.

Chattanooga 9 - Wagner 2
Chattanooga earned its second win of the tournament and first for starting pitcher Albritton, downing the Seahawks 9-2 in seven innings. Albrtton tossed six innings, allowing just four hits and two earned runs while striking out six batters. The win pushes her overall record to 1-1 on the season.

UTC wasted no time by getting on the board in the first inning. A Poteat double led off the game and a sacrifice bunt from Taylor moved Poteat to third. Roberts then singled through the left side to score Poteat, and a single later in the inning from Rieck put Chattanooga on top 2-0.

The Lady Mocs plated one run in the second inning as Sam Taylor led off with a walk and stole second base. Roberts drove in her second run of the game in her second at bat, sacrificing a fly ball to left to score Taylor from third.

Up 3-0, Chattanooga added on another run in the fourth with Alyssa Taylor leading off with a single. Roberts singled to center to advance Taylor to second and a hit to center off the bat of Rieck scored the freshman from second base.

Two runs scored in the fifth on two hits as Poteat tripled in Sam Taylor, who reached on a single to left field. Alyssa Taylor then drove in Poteat on a batted ball that ricocheted off of the pitcher. The sixth inning was much of the same as UTC scored two more runs, with Tydingco reaching on catcher's interference and Rieck doubling to score the senior from first. Sam Taylor rounded out the scoring in the inning with a single to center to plate Rieck.

Wagner was able to score two runs off Albritton in the sixth to keep the game alive, but the Lady Mocs added on a run in the sixth and Kaisey Carson (Indianapolis, Ind.) shut the Seahawks down in the seventh, allowing just one hit, to seal the win for Chattanooga.

Rieck was 4-for-4 against Wagner with three RBI and a run scored while Roberts, Poteat and Sam Taylor each recorded a couple of hits and combined for three RBI.

The Lady Mocs are back in action tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. as they take on Villanova. Chattanooga will wrap up its Saturday with a 7 p.m. game against Loyola Marymount. Live stats and play-by-play broadcast are available for each game.
