CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Western Carolina Catamounts Saturday afternoon at Maclellan Gym, falling to 1-3 in the SoCon while WCU improved to 4-0 in the conference with the win.
“We saw some positive play out of our team despite the loss,” Head Coach Travis Filar said. “We played Western Carolina very tightly today. We know we’re just on the edge of where we want to be.”
Freshman Kendall Sexton (Orlando, Fla.) was dominant on offense for the Mocs on the afternoon. The middle blocker led Chattanooga with 10 kills and recorded a team-best .529 hitting percentage. Along with three digs, the freshman also collected a block.
Sophomore Briana Reid (Houston, Texas) finished second in the offensive standing with eight kills and was tied for the team lead in digs with 17. Junior libero Melissa Green (Boca Raton, Fla.) totaled 17 digs and assisted with two kills. Freshman setter Anne Bachmann (Lincoln, Neb.) was Chattanooga’s lead-assist with 18.
Western took the first set 25-20 despite the Mocs recording two more kills than the Catamounts. Errors contributed to the fall of UTC in the first set as it fell victim to errors 10 times in the set. WCU committed just five.
The Catamounts took the second set 25-19 and the third 25-21. On the match, Chattanooga totaled 25 errors while the Catamounts committed only 13 errors. The match’s score was tied 17 times on the day while it only saw the lead change eight times.
Chattanooga goes back to action Wednesday night at 7 p.m. as the Samford Bulldogs visit UTC for midweek match. Live stats and live video are available for the match.
