GoMocs.com, the official website of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics Department, smashed all of its Internet traffic records during the month of September 2009. The Mocs had over a half-million page views last month, nearly a 70% increase from the previous monthly high for GoMocs.com.
UTC has benefitted from one of the best starts to an athletic season in school history. The resurgence of the Mocs' football team has been the driving force to the buzz surrounding Chattanooga athletics so far this school year. The Mocs are 3-1 and off to their best start since the 1997 season. However, all of UTC's fall sports have been putting up impressive numbers and generating interest in the entire athletics program.
The Lady Mocs volleyball team started the year with wins in eight of its first 11 matches, posting their best record in the month of September in a decade. Soccer jumped out to a school-record 5-0 start while the women's golf team earned a No. 12 ranking in the first polls of the season. The men's golf team was ranked No. 1 in the nation in the first Golfstat rankings of the year. The cross country and tennis teams also had some solid outings early in their schedules.
All of this added up to 510,036 hits on GoMocs.com during the month of September 2009. The previous high was 300,496 set in March 2009 during the men's and women's basketball postseason runs. GoMocs.com had 53,389 unique visitors to the site last month, almost a 20% increase from the previous record of 44,630 also set in March 2009.
These numbers average out to 17,001 hits each day and a daily viewership of 1,780 unique visitors for September 2009. The increases in the readership and distribution of content on GoMocs.com also resulted in a 30% increase in online revenues compared to the same time last year.
