SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference today announced its Academic All-Conference team for the 2009 fall season. A total of 25 Mocs, representing the fall sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball, earned recognition for their academic success.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and must have competed in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded fall campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
The Mocs had three of the SoCon's 10 student-athletes with a 4.0 cumulative g.p.a., more than any other school in the league. Cross country senior David Moore (Sarnia, Ontario), volleyball sophomore Jessica Scott (Lawrence, Kan.) and soccer sophomore Susanne Mader (Bischofsmais, Bavaria) all had perfect g.p.a.'s heading into the fall.
A total of 10 football players made the list, trailing only Wofford (13) and The Citadel (12) for the most representatives from that sport on the Academic All-SoCon team. Moore led a group of five members of the Mocs' cross country team to earn recognition while Scott was one of four members of the volleyball squad who were honored. Mader was a part of six women's soccer players to earn Academic All-SoCon recognition.
