The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics Marketing Department took home three awards at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) convention in Anaheim, Calif., on Wednesday. The Mocs won a pair of Golds and one Silver in the 2009-10 NACMA "Best of" Awards national contest.
Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations. More than 650 entries were received for the 2009-10 year.
"I am very proud of the collective efforts of our external staff and all of the work they have put in to promoting Mocs Athletics," stated Director of Athletics Rick Hart. "It is great to receive recognition from your colleagues across the country, but it is even better to represent the University as an industry leader in athletics marketing. This is one more step towards our goal of establishing comprehensive excellence as the UTC standard."
Chattanooga's first Gold Award was for the 2009 Mocs Football Father's Day Package promotion as a part of the New Revenue Generating Idea category. This promotion resulted in the sale of over 300 new season tickets for Mocs football. It served as a boost in ticket purchases and revenue generation during a time when sales are traditionally slow. Chattanooga saw its largest single-day sales to date on the Saturday prior to Father's Day in 2009.
The Mocs second Gold Award came in the Season Ticket Sales Campaign category. Restore the Glory resulted in record season ticket sales for Mocs football. Chattanooga sold 2,527 season tickets last year, shattering the previous record of 2,300 set in 1997. It was just the third time UTC had topped the 2,000 mark for season ticket sales and the first time since 1998. Chattanooga nearly doubled its sales from 2008 when 1,271 season tickets were sold.
Both the Mocs Football Father's Day Package and the Restore the Glory campaign returned for the 2010 season. The Father's Day package, which just ended on Sunday, resulted in over 200 new season tickets for Mocs football. Season tickets sales for 2010 are ahead of last year's record breaking pace as the push to Restore the Glory to Mocs football continues.
The Mocs Silver Award came in the Electronic Promotion category for the T-Shirt Texting Campaign during basketball season. On the day of the Mocs' game against UNC Greensboro members of the marketing staff, along with the UTC Spirit Squad, were on campus giving out T-Shirts to students who sent texts to 10 of their friends encouraging them to go to the game. As a result, the Mocs saw their second largest student crowd of the season.
This is not the first time the external staff of Chattanooga Athletics has earned recognition for its work in promoting the Mocs. UTC grabbed two Addy Awards for the men's basketball introduction video in March.
