Chapel Hill, NC – University of Tennessee at Chattanooga assistant wrestling coach Rocco Mansueto is among the nominees for the 2013 “Social Media Assistant Coach of the Year Award,” announced by Elite Level Sport Marketing (ELSM) and the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
Mansueto has helped build UTC wrestling’s “Chattanooga Strong” brand through the use of social media. The Mocs wrestling facebook page (facebook.com/UTCWrestling) has over 3,700 likes, while the twitter account (@UTCWrestling) has over 2,300 followers.
“The nominated coaches have done a really nice job using social media to engage followers,” said ELSM CEO Coyte Cooper. “By investing in mediums like Twitter, they have each helped to build interest in their program and the sport.”
The Mocs are coming off a 2012-13 season that saw a school record for attendance at home events. UTC average 1,261 fans per home date, including a sold-out crowd of 2,639 for the Iowa match on Nov. 16. UTC also drew over 5,000 fans for the two-day Southern Scuffle, driven in large part by social media efforts.
The criteria for determining the award winners will feature two key elements: a panel of judges assessing performance (60%) and an online voting competition (40%).
Mocs fans can vote for Coach Mansueto between now and May 31st on the ELSM website (www.elitelevelsportmarketing.com). Fans will be allowed to vote once each day. The winner of the award will be announced Monday, June 17th at 8:00pm EST on the @ELSMarketing Twitter account.
Each winner will receive a custom framed awards poster and will be honored in a feature story that will be housed on the ELSM and NWCA sites. These individuals will also be recognized at the NWCA Convention in August. For more information on the “Social Media of the Year” awards, visit the ELSM site.
