With the start of the 2013-14 collegiate wrestling season a month away, one member of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga squad receive preseason national recognition this week. Junior Corey Mock is No. 12 in the Intermat College Rankings Top-20 at 165 pounds.
Mock is a native of Chapel Hill, N.C., and is about to start his first season with the Mocs after transferring from the University of North Carolina. He is a two-time NCAA qualifier and will step in as the starter at 165 pounds.
“Corey has been working hard since the first day he arrived on campus and it is great to see him recognized in the preseason,” stated head coach Heath Eslinger. “If he keeps putting in the effort, he will have a chance to finish much higher than where he started.”
The Mocs are coming off an 11-6 campaign and their 27th Southern Conference title in 2013. Chattanooga graduated four seniors from the starting lineup, but returns a pair of SoCon Champions and NCAA qualifiers.
The Mocs open the season on Friday, Nov. 8, hosting No. 8 Wisconsin and Cumberland in Maclellan Gym. Season tickets and Southern Scuffle tickets go on sale Monday, Oct. 16, on GoMocs.com or by calling the UTC Ticket Office at (423) 266-MOCS.
