The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team celebrated its 28th Southern Conference Championships at its postseason awards banquet tonight. Head Coach Heath Eslinger handed out a handful of team awards in front of a crowd of supporters at the DoubleTree Hotel tonight.
Seniors Alex Hudson and Trey Stavrum were the guests of honor. Each took their turns being equally recognized and roasted by Coach Eslinger. Each playful jab was countered with a heartfelt example of how much these two individuals have met to the program over the last four-plus years.
Hudson took home the top honor of the evening, securing the Jim Morgan Team MVP honor. A two-time NCAA qualifier, Hudson was 30-9 at 157 this season. Junior Nick Soto grabbed the Ethan Reeve Workhorse Award. Soto is coming off his third straight Southern Conference title and 33-11 record.
Junior Corey Mock earned the Most Improved Award in his first season at UTC. The transfer from North Carolina won the SoCon title at 165 and was the SoCon Tournament‘s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Sophomore John Lampe earned the Pat Murphy Team Academic Award. The Mocs starter and All-SoCon wrestler at 184 has a perfect 4.0 GPA through five semesters at UTC.
