Alex Anderson was named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Month for the seventh time in her career, the SoCon office announced this week.  Mocs’ wrestler Lloyd Rogers received the wrestling honor for February.

Anderson, a senior from Stone Mountain, Ga., averaged 17.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots per game in February.  She scored in double digits in all eight games while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 74.4 percent from the free throw line.

The SoCon Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, Anderson recorded double-doubles against UNC Greensboro, College of Charleston and Western Carolina.  She scored 39 points in a win over Davidson, the highest point total in the SoCon this season.

Rogers, a senior from Palm City, Fla., went undefeated in the month of February with a 5-0 mark and a 3-0 Southern Conference record.  He defeated Don Dryer of Central Michigan by technical fall 25-9, posted a 21-10 major decision over Trebor Clavette of Davidson, defeated VMI’s Dustin McCabe by technical fall, 24-8, scored a 15-7 major decision over Victor Hojilla of UNC Greensboro and defeated Virginia Tech’s Eric Decker, 5-1.

Ranked as high as 14th nationally at 174 pounds, Rogers helped lead the 18th-ranked Mocs to a 4-1 record in February.  He was voted Southern Conference Co-Wrestler of the Year in March.

Anderson and Rogers each led their respective teams to Southern Conference Championships last week.  Rogers won the individual title at 174 pounds.

Anderson and her Lady Mocs teammates will learn their NCAA Tournament site and first-round opponent Monday at 7 p.m. at Big River Grille’s downtown location.  The public is invited to join them.  Rogers and seven of his teammates begin competition at the NCAA Wrestling Championships Thursday.
