Mocs Wrap Up Competition at NCAA Championships

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team wrapped up competition at the NCAA Championships today.  The Mocs had two still alive in the consolation draws, but both lost their only matches today. 

Freshman Nick Soto (Spring Hill, Fla.) was pinned by the No. 7 seed A.J. Schopp of Edinboro at the 2:08 mark.  Soto went 1-2 at 133 in his first trip to the NCAAs, capping off an impressive rookie season.  The 2012 Southern Conference Champion finishes with a 25-8 overall record. 

Senior Brandon Wright (Germantown, Tenn.) ended his career today with a 13-2 loss to Virginia Tech's Peter Yates.  Yates was the No. 6 seed in the tournament.  Wright, the 2012 SoCon champ at 165, finishes with a 22-11 record this season. 

The Mocs tallied 3.5 points overall and their final placing will be determined after tomorrow's finals.  UTC has a 12-6 overall record, the Mocs wins in three years under head coach Heath Eslinger.  Chattanooga also captured with 26th SoCon Tournament Championship in 2012.
