MOCS MEN’S GOLF NOTEBOOK
Carpet Capital Collegiate | Round 1 | Sept. 6, 2013
BUNN & THE YOUNG GUNS
This is the youngest team Mark Guhne has started the season with as senior Davis Bunn is joined by freshmen Wes Gosselin (redshirt), Ewan Scott, Brooks Thomas and Stuart Thomas. The five-some enter 84 rounds of collegiate experience, obviously on Bunn’s resume.
The five this weekend qualified over 108 holes – six rounds – to earn their spot in the lineup.
BUNN BIRDIE BINGE
Bunn balanced six birdies with five bogeys and seven pars for his one-under par 71. The six birds ties his career high set last season in the second round of the Savannah Quarters Individual. The 71 is his second-best 18 at the Carpet Capital behind his second round 70 in 2010 during his freshman campaign.
Chattanooga recorded 12 birdies on the round on the counting cards, half from its senior.
BACK NINE IS THE FRONT NINE
The Mocs opened the day on the back nine playing it at 14-over par on the counting cards. The day got better on the front side scoring four over on holes 1-9. Bunn was low on the opening nine holes of the day at -1, while Scott’s -1 on today’s second nine led the team.
GOSSELIN COMPLETES LONG ROAD BACK
Gosselin came to the Scenic City a year ago as a highly-touted recruit. An elbow injury wiped out his 2012-13 season as he just got back to the course over the summer. He finished fourth in the six-round qualifying tournament to earn his spot in his collegiate debut.
There were five scores of double bogey or higher among the counting cards in round one. All five came on holes 13-17 in UTC’s first nine Friday.
