Mocs Lead the Nation with Four NWCA All-Academic Honorees
Sophomore Demetrius Johnson
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team put four student-athletes on the National Wrestling Coaches Association annual Division I All-Academic Team, tying for the most in the nation.  Sophomores Demetrius Johnson, Jason McCroskey and Brandon Wright and freshman Dean Pavlou were all honored for their work in the classroom.

To qualify for the All-Academic team a wrestler must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point-average, be an NCAA qualifier or win 60 percent of his total schedule and compete in at least 60 percent of said schedule. The other way to qualify for the All-Academic team is to have a 3.0 g.p.a. and be an NCAA All-American.

Out of the 45 schools represented: Edinboro, Nebraska and Chattanooga each had four wrestlers earning All-Academic accolades followed by American, Ohio State, Purdue and Utah Valley with three individuals named to the All-Academic Team.

"This is a great accomplishment for those guys who have worked hard in the classroom," stated Mocs Head Coach Heath Eslinger.  "My goal is for our team to have the highest g.p.a. in the nation.  We have guys here who are buying into that vision and we are bringing in the caliber of student-athletes who will help us reach that goal."

Pavlou was a 2010 Southern Conference Champion and an NCAA qualifier at 149 pounds.  He has a 3.47 g.p.a. and is majoring in Health and Human Performance.  McCroskey was an NCAA qualifier at 184 pounds while maintaining a 3.58 g.p.a. in Mechanical Engineering.  It is McCroskey's second appearance on the NWCA All-Academic squad.

Johnson was an All-SoCon performer at 125 pounds and holds a 3.42 g.p.a. in Criminal Justice.  Wright was also on the All-SoCon team at 165 pounds.  He currently has a 3.56 g.p.a. in Business Entrepreneurship.
