UTC Looks to Build on Win This Week in North Carolina

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--- The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team is back on the road in North Carolina this coming Monday and Tuesday. This time the squad is in Greenville for the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at Greenville Country Club.

The previous Monday/Tuesday saw UTC claim a clean sweep at the Starmount Fall Classic with the team and Agathe Sauzon (Valence, France) claiming wins.

“We did what we set out to do (at UNCG),” Head Colette Murray said. “Just like last week, we want to compete for the win. I’d like to see us play a complete tournament from top to bottom in the lineup.”

Sauzon’s win was her second in 10 events for the Mocs. She joined Emma de Groot (2008-11) as the only multiple winners in school history.

It starts with a 36-hole day on Monday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Chattanooga starts on holes 4-6 paired with ETSU and Old Dominion. Click the live scoring link above to access tee times and scoring for the event.

The fall slate is completed in Iowa, October 12-13, at the Hawkeyes’ Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.

• Chattanooga opens the Monday shotgun start playing 36 holes with ETSU and Old Dominion.

• UTC is making its first appearance in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. It played in the 2010 NCAA East Regional in Greenville, but that was not played at the Greenville Country Club.

• The Mocs are off to a great start scoring-wise with six of their eight rounds under 300. Last year’s squad had nine all year (33 rounds). The school record is 11 (2008-09).

• The team has bested 300 in five consecutive rounds with a 293.4 stroke average over that stretch. It’s the longest such streak in school history.

• The squad’s scoring average of 296.00 is a record pace. The school record for a season is 301.10 in 2010-11.

• Chattanooga fired back-to-back 289’s last week at the Starmount Fall Classic. That was the lowest total since shooting 278 (-10) in the final round of the 2011 JMU Eagle Landing Invitational.

• UTC’s win last week is the 15th in the sixth-plus years of the program and 12th medalist. The last six tourney wins have all been sweeps with team and individual wins. The 2011 Kinderlou Forest Challenge is the last team victory without an individual one.

• Sauzon claimed her second collegiate win in 10 starts. She joins Emma de Groot (6, 2008-11) as the only multiple winners for the Mocs.

• Sauzon set new personal bests with low 18 (69), 36 (141) and 54 (210) totals. Her 36-hole 141 tied Christine Wolf’s (2008-11) school record. The 210 was one behind Wolf’s 209 at the 2011 JMU Eagle Landing Invite.

• She was not the only Mocs golfer to set new marks. Jordan Britt’s 217 (+4) is her low tourney score as was her 36-hole 142. Emily McLennan also tallied those same bests with 143 through 36 and finishing at 220.

• Britt poster her first top 5 of 2013-14 and second top 10 shooting a career-best 217 (+4). It’s her fourth career top 5 and sixth top 10.

• Chattanooga’s 30 birdies is twice the previous season high of 15 (Cardinal Cup).

• UTC has won four straight conference titles and competed in six consecutive NCAA Regionals in the six years of the program’s existence.

• The Mocs are -7 on par fives over their last five rounds.

• Sauzon leads the team in scoring average (73.13) and fewest bogeys (20).

• McLennan paces her squad in birdies (20), par 3 scoring (3.08) and par 5 scoring (4.90).

• Britt is the team leader in pars (107), par or better holes (82.6%), fewest score higher than bogey (3) and par 4 scoring (4.08).

• UTC has a proven ability to tally pars so far. The counters have accounted for 396 thus far in 144 holes (576 on counting cards) topping 50 five times. The season high is 58 in the second round of the Cardinal Cup. is the official website of the Chattanooga Mocs.  The Mocs can also be followed on their official Facebook page or on Twitter.  Find out how to join the UTC Mocs Club and support more than 300 student-athletes by clicking here.
