CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--- Chattanooga Mocs rising junior Emily McLennan‘s match play run ended today at the 114th Western Women’s Amateur at Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, Pa. McLennan lost 2&1 to a junior from California.
McLennan did what you need to do in match play events. She got through stroke play qualifying with ease. Her opening round 1-under par total of 71 tied for the low score in the two qualifying rounds. She ended up tied for 14th in stroke play which was five shots clear of a playoff for entry into match play.
Her first round opponent was Eunice Yi who is also a rising junior from GRU Augusta, formerly Augusta State University. It was a battle that lasted 23 holes before the Mocs star moved into the second round.
There she met Kelly McGovern from William & Mary where she just completed her freshman year. McLennan won her seventh straight match in the last week 7&5. It was the third time she won by seven or better. But that is where it ended today.
McLennan is fresh off winning last week’s Tennessee Women’s Amateur at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville. She is now No. 163 in the R&A’s World Amateur Golf Rankings.GoMocs.com is the official website of the Chattanooga Mocs. The Mocs can also be followed on their official Facebook page or on Twitter.
