CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf program ranked No. 10 in the nation in 2013-14 in the classroom posting a 3.724 team grade point average. The Women’s Golf Coaches Association announced its All-Scholar Team GPA Award today with UTEP earning the top spot with a 3.840.
“We want to win in every area,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics David Blackburn said. “That’s our focus. Colette Murray and her ladies captured their fifth straight Southern Conference Championship and boasted the individual champion for the fourth year in a row.
“I’m extremely pleased to see the team rank in the top 10 in academics as well,” Blackburn added. “This includes every level of four-year collegiate competition. It is an exceptional accomplishment.”
Rising junior Emily McLennan is a prime example of Blackburn’s mantra to win in every area. She captured the SoCon Championship in April and the Tennessee Women’s Amateur in June. She leads the squad’s academic efforts as well with a 4.0 GPA over four semesters.
Every team member made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in 2013-14. That’s earning a 3.0 or better grade point average for the semester. McLennan, SoCon Golfer of the Year Jordan Britt, Isabella Loza, Sarah Dolmovich, DeeDee Russell and Porsche Campbell all tallied Dean’s List mention as well.
Chattanooga is the top academic program in the SoCon and in the state. No league team earned top 25 mention, while Vanderbilt was No. 19 (3.655) as the only other Tennessee school in the top 25.
