Lady Mocs Third at Pinehurst Challenge on Day Two

PINEHURST, N.C. -- The Lady Mocs golf squad carded a second round 309 to go with its 311 on day one to sit in a third-place tie at the 2008 Pinehurst Challenge on Pinehurst #8 hosted by the College of Charleston.

 

Emma de Groot fired a second round 2-over 74 on day two to go with her 75 from day one for a two-round score of 149. Freshman de Groot leads three Chattanooga players in the top 14 of the tournament. Freshman Christine Wolf who was tied for the lead after the opening round, dropped to 10th place today with a 79. Sophomore Kayla Stewart carded a 1-over par 73 to move up to a tie for 14th place.

 

Sophomore Katie Taylor has a two-round score of 165 while freshman walk-on Milla Junni maintained her scoring average with an identical score of 85 on the second day.

 

East Tennessee maintains its lead with a second round 304, leading East Carolina by just four strokes. Chattanooga is tied with fellow Southern Conference school UNC Greensboro with a score of 620. Augusta State and Oregon State are tied for fifth with a two-round score of 624.

 

Charleston’s Steffi Kirchmyer and ETSU’s Laura Jansome are tied for first at four-over with de Groot and East Carolina’s Emily Lind and ETSU’s Lucy Gould one stroke behind.

 

Wolf has five birdies for the tournament and is 1-under on par 5’s while de Groot is 2-under on par 3’s and has 24 pars. The Lady Mocs have 17 birdies and 94 pars as a team.

 

The final round will tee off at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start.
