Emma de Groot finished third at the 2008 Pinehurst Challenge
PINEHURST, N.C. – Freshman Emma de Groot carded a 2-over 74 to lead the Lady Mocs to a seventh place finish at the 2008 Pinehurst Challenge hosted by the College of Charleston on Pinehurst #8 a 72-hole par, 5968 yard course.
Chattanooga carded a 309 on the final day of the Challenge to finish with a team score of 929. de Groot placed third overall with a three-day total 223. Freshman Christine Wolf who led after the first day, was 10th with a 229.
Sophomore Kayla Stewart had a 236 over the three-day event while sophomore Katie Taylor fired a final round 76 to finish with a three round total of 241. Freshman walk-on Milla Junni had a 263 for just her second collegiate tournament.
East Carolina posted the lowest tournament 54-hole team record of 910 to win the title. College of Charleston’s Steffi Kirchmayr and Maryland’s Kelly Caulkin fired a tournament record 69 in the final day of competition and Krichmayr had an individual tournament record 217 to win the event. Stetson’s Christine Frazer had a hole-in-one on the No. 5 hole on Tuesday.
The Lady Mocs will be back in action at the Sixth Annual Samford University Women’s Intercollegiate at Limestone Springs in Oneonta, Ala., from March 16-18.
