Women's Golf Fifth at First-Ever League Championships

CHARLESTON, S.C. Freshman Christine Wolf finished tied for third as the Lady Mocs took fifth in their first-ever Southern Conference women’s golf championship at The Links at Stono Ferry Golf Club in Charleston, S.C.

 

Wolf finished with an 8-over 224 after firing a third-round 74 on the par 72, 6,022 yard course. She carded four birdies in the final round to finish at 2-over on the day and finished tied for third with Steffi Kirchmayr of the College of Charleston, ranked 68th by Golfstat.com. Freshman Emma de Groot concluded final round play with a pair of birdies and closed with a three-round total 239.

 

Sophomore Katie Taylor also carded a three-day score of 239 while Kayla Stewart had a 241. Chattanooga was fifth in the championship with a three-day score of 943.

 

Furman, with a 901, reclaimed the title after a two-year break. It is the Lady Paladins 12th overall since 1994. Stefanie Kenoyer, ranked 85th by Golfstat.com, was four strokes off the lead at the start of the day in third and carded five birdies to finish 2-under and claim medalist honors.

 

Elon’s Danielle Mills maintained her hold on second with 6-over, 222 with Wolf and Kirchmayer two strokes back in third. UNC Greensboro placed second with a three-day total of 909 and were led by Erica Creed with a 9-over, 225 for fifth.

 

Furman placed four in the top 10. Jaclyn Hilea was tied with Creed for fifth and Blair Lamb was seventh with a 12-over. Corrine Carr closed out the tournament with a 76 and finished in a four-way tie at 10th with a 14-over, 230.

 

The Lady Paladins earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Region Tournament and an opportunity to qualify for the National Championships to be played in New Mexico.
