SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Chattanooga golfers Emma de Groot and Steven Fox swept the Southern Conference Golfer of the Month awards announced Friday by the league office.  The duo are two of 12 student-athletes honored by the SoCon for March excellence.

A junior from Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia, de Groot was a two-time women's golfer of the week selection in March.  She recorded four top 20 finishes against some of the best players in the country.  While her runner-up finish at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational was her best by the numbers, de Groot's tie for fourth at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge was her most impressive.

Emma bested 19 nationally-ranked golfers at Kinderlou Forest including four in the top 25.  She entered the month ranked No. 76 nationally on Golfstat and ended it No. 46.

Fox, a Hendersonville, Tenn., native, captured his first collegiate title tying for medalist honors at the Furman Intercollegiate with a six-under par 210.  Steven went head-to-head in his final round with 2009 U.S. Amateur finalist Ben Martin from Clemson, who is playing at the Masters this weekend tying Martin with a birdie on the final hole.

For the month, Fox averaged a team-best 71.2 strokes per round while shooting par or better five times.  He also tied for fifth place at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.

Emma leads the Mocs this weekend, April 10-11, at the SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.  The tournament opens with 36 holes on Saturday followed by the final round on Sunday.  Fox and the men's team are off until April 18-20 at the Southern Conference Championship in Florence, S.C.
