GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Emma de Groot's final round 68 (-2) led the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team to a strong fourth-place finish at the SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida.  The two-under par round propelled de Groot into a tie for first enabling her to capture her fifth career win in a playoff.

de Groot started the day tied for fifth three shots behind Michigan State's Laura Kueny  She made up the ground quickly as Kueny bogeyed five of her first seven holes to give de Groot the lead.

The junior from Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia played steady all day with a perfect two-birdie, 16-par round.  Kueny overcame de Groot's lead with birdying four of her final six holes to tie.  de Groot captured the title on the third playoff hole.

de Groot finished two strokes clear of Jessica Negron (FSU) and Mia Piccio (UF) at four-over par 214.  A quartet of golfers tied for fifth at 216 (+6) including UNC Greensboro's Courtney Taylor.  Furman's Stefanie Kenoyer, ranked No. 16 nationally, finished five shots back in ninth at 217.

"It really was only a matter of time," said head coach Colette Murray.  "She has been so close this season and really earned it today.  She is playing at a very high level this Spring."

No. 12 Michigan State captured the team championship with a final round 288 (+8) giving it a 54-hole hole total of 868.  The Spartans finished three shots ahead of No. 24 Florida State (871) and 11 strokes above host No. 18 Florida (879).

Chattanooga ended up fourth ahead of No. 23 Texas A&M by five shots.  The Mocs topped Southern Conference rival UNC Greensboro and Furman by nine and 28 shots, respectively.

It was an impressive all-around performance for the Mocs as they played with just four players throughout the event.  Senior Katie Taylor could not make the trip due to her studies as she looks to graduate in May.

"It was the right decision for Katie," added Murray.  "It was the right decision for our team.  We are not going to waver in our commitment to academics for short-term needs.  I'm proud of her, and I am proud of the way our team responded to the challenge."

Junior Christine Wolf was clutch throughout the weekend finishing tied for 18th with a total of 221 following today's 73 (+3).  Moa Duf tied for 31st at 228, while Maria Juliana Loza tied for 40th at 231.

de Groot tied her own school record with her 68 today which she first did in the final round of the 2008 Samford Intercollegiate which was the site of her third win.  The 212 (+2) total ties for her second best mark at the same event.

The Mocs return to the tee next Sunday for the Southern Conference Championship.  The three-day event runs Sunday, April 18, through Tuesday, April 20, at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
