SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Chattanooga junior Emma de Groot has been selected as the Southern Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 7-13. It is the third time this season that Emma has captured the league's weekly honor.
de Groot won the SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational Sunday in a playoff over Michigan State's Laura Kueny, the 17th-ranked player in the country according to Golfstat. She tied her own school record with a 68 (-2) in the final round and tied her second-best career 54-hole total of 212 (+2).
It was the first win of the season for the junior from Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia. Emma now has five wins and 14 Top 5s in her career. In Florida, de Groot beat 11 top 100 players including two ranked in the top 20.
Not only has de Groot earned three other weekly league honors, she was also the SoCon's Golfer of the Month for March. She is ranked No. 34 in the nation on Golfstat.
de Groot leads the Mocs into the Southern Conference Championship beginning Sunday, April 18, at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The 54-hole event ends on Tuesday, April 20, and can be followed live on GoMocs.com by clicking the link in the schedule.
