CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team inked its first signee of the spring period adding top Austrian junior Michaela Gasplmayr. Gasplmayr is considered one of the top two juniors to come out of Austria this year.
"We are very excited to add a player and person of Michaela's caliber," said head coach Colette Murray. "I've been told that she is a little ahead of where Christine Wolf was at the same age so I know we are getting a player.
"Her junior resume is strong," Murray added. "She's won a ladies amateur event (Russian) and qualified for a Ladies European Tour event."
As Murray noted, Gasplmayr won the 2010 Russian Ladies Amateur at Moscow Golf and Yacht Club. She captured the 72-hole event with rounds of 81, 72, 78 and 75.
Gasplmayr qualified for the 2010 UNIQZ Ladies Golf Open playing as an amateur. She missed the cut shooting 80-73. Earlier this year she finished tied for eighth at the Kenako South African World Junior Championship. She also finished tied for 12th at the 2010 Austrian International Amateur.
Gasplmayr joins early signee Mette Kryger (Niva, Denmark) as members of the 2011 signing class. Murray also signed Marion Duvernay (Publier, France) in the fall, with Duvernay joining the team in January.
