CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- It's a quick turnaround for the Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team as it opens play Friday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course in Franklin, Tenn. UTC is competing in the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship which annually features one of the toughest field in collegiate golf.
The tourney marks the second one in seven-day stretch for the Mocs. The ladies opened the season Monday with 36 holes at the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup hosted by Louisville. They ended up third finishing strong down the stretch on Tuesday. It marks six competitive rounds in seven days.
The lineup features juniors Marion Duvernay (Publier, France) and Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.), sophomores Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark) and Porsche Campbell (Vancouver, Canada) and freshman Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia). Duvernay tied for fourth at the Cardinal Cup, while Britt shook off an opening round 77 to tie for 14th.

HEAD COACH
COLETTE MURRAY (Jacksonville State '04) is in her sixth year as a head
coach, all at Chattanooga. The Mocs have
12 team titles with nine medalists under her watch.
LAST TIME OUT
Chattanooga finished third to open the season at the Wild Eggs Cardinal
Cup at Louisville earlier this week. The scores were a consistent 300, 301 and
300 in very soggy conditions. Marion Duvernay (Publier, France) shot a
career-best 219 (+3, 72-75-72) to tie for fourth, her top collegiate result.
UP NEXT
The Mocs are off until Oct. 12-14 when they make the short trip to
Knoxville, Tenn., for the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship. The event is
played at Holston Hills C.C.
NOTES
- UTC is in the midst of six
rounds in seven days. The Mocs played Monday (36)/Tuesday at the Wild Eggs
Cardinal Cup earlier in the week and return to the tee for 54 holes this
weekend Friday-Sunday at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship.
- One change to the lineup,
sophomore Porsche Campbell (Vancouver, Canada) is inserted for Isabella Loza
(Bucaramanga, Colombia). Loza injured her hand prior to the Cardinal Cup and
played through the injury. She will sit out and heal this weekend.
- Chattanooga is making its
second Mason Rudolph Women's Championship appearance. The Mocs finished 13th in
the 2008 tourney that featured 12 teams in the preseason top 15 that year,
including eight in the top 10. Wins came against Wake Forest, Stanford,
Tennessee and UCF.
- Duvernay has proven strong in
season openers. Last year, she notched the best finish of her young career with
a tie for fifth at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. She bested that this year
tying for fourth at the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup.
- Duvernay's 219 (+3) is a new
low 54-hole total. She did it with eight birdies, 35 pars and 11 bogeys. It was
her first full tournament without a score higher than bogey.
- Duvernay leads the squad in
Birdies (8), Fewest Others per Round (0.00), Par 3 Scoring (3.08) and Par 5
Scoring (4.92).
- Junior Jordan Britt's
(Chattanooga, Tenn.) tie for 14th at the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup is her best
start to a season. She shook off an opening round 77 to shoot 74 and 73 in the
final 36 holes. She played 52 of 54 holes at two-over par. The par five 13th
snagged her on the first two rounds with a triple-bogey eight on each pass. She
leads the team in Par 4 Scoring (4.00), Fewest Bogeys per Round (3.00) and is
tied for the high in Pars (36).
- Emily McLennan (Queensland,
Australia) shot 73 in her fist competitive round. She ended up tied for 21st
shooting 227. She went to the same golf academy in Australia as PGA Tour golfer
Jason Day.
- Campbell opened her UTC career
with a level-par round of 72. It included a team-best five birdies. She is a
sophomore transfer from the University of British Columbia.
- Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark)
is tied for the team lead with Britt with 36 pars.
- Loza is a freshman following in
the footsteps of her sister Maria Juliana who just completed her four-year
career in May. Another freshman,
- The 2011-12 Chattanooga Mocs
women's golf team again ranked among the nation's smartest. UTC was No. 21
overall and No. 10 among NCAA Division I programs according to the National
Golf Coaches Association. The Mocs had a combined grade point average of 3.621
for the academic year. That total was just a tick off of 2010-11's 3.649 that
ranked 20th overall and 13th in Division I. Maju Loza and Kryger paced the
academic effort with perfect 4.0 GPA's for the year. Loza majors in Mechanical
Engineering, while Kryger studies are in Communications.
- Duvernay just missed the top 10
at the European Amateur shooting a level-par total of 284. She shot rounds of
67, 70, 73 and 74 at Diners Golf and Country Club in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It
was her top summer finish against a strong field.
- Kryger had a very active summer
schedule. Her best finish came in her home country of Denmark. She ended up
third at the Danish International Ladies Championship in Silkeborg Golf Club.
Kryger was a semifinalist at the Danish Ladies Match Play.
- McLennan won three times with
14 other top 10s since 2010 playing in junior, women's amateur and pro events.
She was the 2010 and 2011 Tasmanian Girls Masters Champ as well as the 2010 New
Caledonia Open (pro event) winner.
- Loza owns wins on two
continents. She won the 2011 Colombia National Championship and AJGA Preseason
Junior at the Bridges. She also qualified for the 2011 U.S. Women's Amateur.
- Campbell is a three-time junior
winner in Canada. She competed in four events for the University of British
Columbia (NAIA) in 2009-10.
- The six Mocs come from six
different countries: Britt (American), Campbell (Canadian), Duvernay (French),
Kryger (Danish), Loza (Colombian) and McLennan (Australian).
