SoCon Women’s Golf Championship in Pictures

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team led from start to finish at the 2013 Southern Conference Championship. It was the fourth title in a row for UTC in just six years of the program’s existence. Check out the attached photo gallery to see the week in pictures.

The team was not alone in the win. Sophomore Agathe Sauzon (Valence, France) got in the act as well capturing medalist honors in a playoff with Mary Chandler Bryan from College of Charleston. Sauzon hit a shot for the ages as her 52 degree wedge from 96 yards out nestled to within three feet of the hole for the easy birdie and her first collegiate win.

Quick Notes:
> The Mocs total of 895 (+31) is the lowest in the five years the tourney has been played at Moss Creek’s Devil’s Elbow course. It is the second lowest all-time behind Western Carolina’s 894 in 2003 at Waynesville Golf and Country Club in Waynesville, N.C.

> It was the second wire-to-wire win for UTC with the first coming in 2011. That was a record 30-stroke triumph finishing 54 holes at 900 (303-305-292).

> Prior to this week, there had been four sub-300 rounds at Moss Creek with the Mocs owning three of them. There were five alone this week with two from UTC.

> Sauzon’s two-over par total of 218 is Chattanooga’s best individual total over six years in the event. She is the third straight UTC student-athlete to win the event following in the footsteps of Emma de Groot (2008-11) and teammate Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.). She had an eagle, five birdies, 40 pars, seven bogeys and a double over her 54 holes.

> The ladies learn their regional fate on Monday, April 29, on NCAA.com at 9 p.m. The three locations this year are at Auburn, Oklahoma and Stanford.

> Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia) recorded her third top five of the season, tying for fifth. She was named SoCon Freshman of the Year and All-SoCon joining Sauzon and Britt on the all-league squad. She is the third Moc to win top freshman honors joining de Groot (2008) and Maria Salinas (2009).

> Isabella Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) missed a top 10 finish by just two shots. She tied for 12th in the event. Her final round 75 tied for second on the team for the day.

> Britt tied for 16th after finishing as runner-up in 2011 and champion in 2012. She matched Loza’s 75 in the final round as the duo’s strong, steady play keyed the win for the Mocs.

> Porsche Campbell (Vancouver, Canada) led the team in birdies with seven. She opened with a 75 along with Britt and Sauzon to help stake the squad to a five-stroke lead after 18 holes.

> Head Coach Colette Murray was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year for the third time in the last four years.
