MOCS MEN’S GOLF NOTEBOOK
Carpet Capital Collegiate | Round 2 | Sept. 7, 2013
BETTER START TO ROUND TWO
Head Coach Mark Guhne got the start he was looking for from his young team. The Mocs opened on No. 10 again in round two and got off to a much better start. In yesterday’s opening +18, UTC was +14 at its turn after the 18th hole. Today after getting to -7 early, the squad fell back a bit on the tough closing holes at the Farm. The Mocs turned at +1.
CARPET CAPITAL HISTORY WITH PLAYING PARTNER
Chattanooga and Tennessee have a Carpet Capital connection beyond playing together today. UTC came-from-behind in 2008 beating the Vols by five for the coveted title. UT returned the favor a year later passing the Mocs on the final day to claim the win.
The two school’s matched each other for a second straight day.
PAR 5 SCORING IMPROVED
Par 5 scoring is usually a good indicator of how the Mocs play in a tourney. The team shot -7 today on the four par 5s after an E total on the counting cards Friday.
Not only did UTC top yesterday’s mark by 10 strokes, it did so on the backs of its freshmen. The three counting freshmen today improved by 19 combined shots. The biggest swing came from Brooks Thomas who shaved 10 shots coming in with a 75 for his second 18.
