MOCS WOMEN’S GOLF NOTEBOOK
Starmount Fall Classic | Rounds 1 & 2 | Sept. 30, 2013
SCHOOL RECORD DAY
The Mocs’ 578 sets the school record for 36-hole score. It beats the 581 in the first two rounds of the 2011 JMU Eagle Landing Invitational.
BEST ROUND SINCE…
Today’s opening 289 (+5) is Chattanooga’s best round since the final round of the 2011 JMU Eagle Landing Invite when the Mocs fired a school-record 278 (-10). It is the low first 18 since the 2008 Chris Banister Gamecock Classic shooting 288 (E).
UTC matched it on its second 18. The 289;s tie for the sixth-best round in school history.
TRIO COMBINE FOR GOOD START
Jordan Britt, Agathe Sauzon and Emily McLennan posted par or better rounds to open the tournament. Britt and Sauzon each shot 70 and McLennan carding an even-par 71. It’s the first time since the record-setting Eagle Landing round in 2011 that three accomplished the feat, and it was actually four that day. Former Mocs Emma de Groot (67), Christine Wolf (68), Marion Duvernay (71) and Maria Juliana Loza (72) each matched or beat the par score of 72 there.
SAUZON TIES RECORD
Sauzon, the 2013 Southern Conference Champion, tied Wolf’s record for 36-hole total (141). Wolf’s was a three-under total through two rounds of the 2011 JMU event.
She turned in her fifth and sixth career par or better cards today. Those six have come in 25 career rounds. She tied her career high with four birdies (2013 Mercedes-Benz Championship 1st Round) in round one and has already tied her season best of six birdies.
BRITT NEARLY MATCHES PERFECT CARD
Britt’s 70 in the first round was one stroke away from matching her career-best 69 as well as her bogey-free card from the second round of the Cardinal Cup earlier this month. Britt bogeyed the par four 13th which offset two birdies and 15 pars which match her career-high from the earlier 18. The one under tally is her 12th career par or better round.
MCLENNAN CONTINUES GOOD RUN
After opening with a plus-four 76 this season, McLennan has played six over for her next 108 holes. That’s an average of 72.5 strokes per round.
TEAM SCORING NOTES
The Mocs registered 51 pars in round one, the fourth time this season with 50 or more in a round out of six 18’s. The nine birdies for both18’s ties for season best (Mercedes-Benz Championship 1st Round). The 18 birdies today are a new season high for a tournament besting the 15 in the opening event (Cardinal Cup).
