Mocs Name Wittmer Assistant Volleyball Coach

Chattanooga head volleyball coach Travis Filar announced the promotion of Taylor Wittmer to a full-time assistant coaching position. Wittmer is in her second year on the coaching staff along with Savanah Parra.

Wittmer spent last season assisting in travel, video and film breakdown during her first year with the Mocs. The former Indiana University student-athlete also coordinated the Mocs' monthly newsletter and planned community service events for the team. On the court, she worked primarily with middle blockers.

"Taylor was such a large part of last year's team," Filar said. "She worked hard for us last season andshe is ready to take on more responsibilities in a larger role this season. It is nice to bring her on full-time and be able to reward her for her dedication to the team."

In addition to her duties from last season, the former Hoosier takes on the task of recruiting, assisting as a camp director and acting as an academic liaison.

"In the short time she has been here, she has had a lasting impact on the culture of the team and in the lives of our student-athletes," Filar said. "She understands what it takes to build a program, and she is a role model for leadership and competitiveness."

While with the Hoosiers, the Loogootee, Ind., native helped lead the Hoosiers to the program's first NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2010 as a middle blocker and right-side hitter.

She was honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award during the 2010 season voted upon by the league's coaches. Wittmer was acknowledged with the Coaches' Award in 2007 and the Player's Inspiration Award in 2009 by the IU volleyball program.

"This is an amazing opportunity," Wittmer said. "I am blessed to be a part of such a great program. I am excited about the growth of our team, and I am looking forward to helping the Mocs become a championship team."

Wittmer is currently pursuing her master's degree in Research Psychology from UTC.

The Mocs will wrap up preseason practice Sunday before preparing to host the Country Inns & Suites Invitational next weekend.
