The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team took part in its second scrimmage at Finley Stadium this afternoon. The Mocs went through a 122-play workout during their 11th session of the spring.
Freshman Tolerance Shepherd (Fitzgerald, Ga.) led the offense with 124 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. The defense controlled most of the afternoon, only allowing the offensive to find the end zone three times.
Davis Tull (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded two sacks and a hurry in the first 10 third-down situation plays. He quickly was subbed out to give the younger lineman some time on the field. Freshmen Vantrell McMillan (Albany, Ga.) and Keionta Davis (Chattanooga, Tenn.) combined for five sacks after replacing Tull.
Marquis Green (Palmetto, Fla.) put up 94 rushing yards on 13 carries while Keon William (Chattanooga, Tenn.) added 78 yards on 14 carries. Green’s second touch of the scrimmage resulted in a 60-yard scoring run. Shepherd had two 20+ yard runs while Williams added a 22-yard dash late in the afternoon.
Jacob Huesman (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was 7/16 passing for 122 yards, including a touchdown and an interception. Huesman’s lone TD strike was a 59-yard connection to Tommy Hudson (Moultie, Ga.). Terrell Robinson (South Pittsburg, Tenn.) was 11/19 for 127 yards passing.
Hudson finished with two catches for 68 yards, while freshman C.J. Board (Clarksville, Tenn.) had five catches for 58 yards. Tight end Troy Dye (Hendersonville, Tenn.) added three catches for 55 yards.
The Mocs have two more workouts next week before hosting the Blue & Gold Spring Game at Finley Stadium on April 20. Gates open at Noon and the UTC coaches and staff will again host the yearly FREE Kids' Clinic, beginning at 12:15 p.m. All youth, middle school and younger, are encouraged to attend the free event.
The UTC Mocs Club and Chattanooga Coca-Cola Bottling Company are sponsoring free hotdogs and beverages under the scoreboard, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Blue & Gold Spring Game kicks off at 2:00 p.m. followed by postgame Offensive and Defensive MVP Awards, the Bob Davis Winter Warrior Award and the naming of 2013 team captains.
