Shafaat Named to CFPA FCS Tight End Award Watch List

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- College Football Performance Awards, the largest awards organization in D-I college football, recently announced its watch list for the 2013 CFPA FCS Tight End Award, and Faysal Shafaat earned a spot on the list. The preliminary watch list highlights thirty-two returning performers, vying for the top individual tight end award in the Football Championship Subdivision.

"Congratulations to Faysal Shafaat on earning a spot on the 2013 CFPA Watch List," said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "Shafaat will likely be one of Huesman's favorite targets in 2013."

This is the second year in a row Shafaat has been named to the CFPA FCS Tight End Watch List.  A rising junior from Orlando, Fla., he has 56 catches and seven touchdowns in his two seasons at UTC.

Shafaat tied for the team lead with five touchdown receptions and was second with 37 catches in 2012.  He was named third team All-American by College Sports Madness after finishing with 295 receiving yards.  He was also a second-team All-SoCon selection.

All CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.

Last season, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel earned the 2012 CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy, while Harvard quarterback Colton Chapple earned the 2012 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy. Multiple award presentations were broadcast live nationally on ESPN, CBS, Fox Sports, Big Ten Network, Pac 12 Network, as well as internationally on BYUtv.
