Lott, Tull Named to CFPA Defensive Line Watch List

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- College Football Performance Awards, the largest awards organization in D-I college football, recently announced its watch list for defensive linemen, and two Chattanooga Mocs were among those named. The preliminary watch list highlights thirty-eight returning performers, vying for the top individual defensive end and defensive tackle awards in the Football Championship Subdivision.

"Congratulations to Derrick Lott and Davis Tull on earning spots on the 2013 CFPA Watch List," said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "Chattanooga has an outstanding tradition of success on defense. In 2013, Lott and Tull will likely pose significant challenges for Southern Conference offenses."

Chattanooga is one of only four programs (along with North Dakota State, Villanova, and Drake) to have multiple players on the 2013 CFPA Defensive Lineman Watch List. Lott and Tull join Jacob Huesman and Faysal Shafaat, who were named to the 2013 CFPA FCS Awards Watch List in May.

Tull, a junior from Knoxville, Tenn., set the UTC single season record with 12.5 sacks last season.  He was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Year and was a consensus All-American honoree.  He also had a UTC single-season record 19.0 tackles-for-loss and finished fifth on the team with 56 total tackles.  Off the field, he was a member of the Academic All-SoCon team and a Capital One Academic All-District honoree.

Lott, a senior from Kennesaw, Ga., was named second team All-SoCon by the league’s coaches and media after transferring from Georgia in 2012.  He was fourth on the team with 57 total tackles and recorded two sacks.  He totaled 15 tackles, including nine solos, against Georgia Southern.  He also had seven solo stops at Wofford.

All CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.
