Mocs Take Part in Annual Pro Day

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team held its annual Pro Day at the Wolford Family Strength & Conditioning Center and the Murphy-Haugerud Football Practice Complex at Scrappy Moore Field today.  A number of NFL scouts were on hand to time and test former Mocs Wes Dothard, D.J. Key, Chaz Moore and Kadeem Wise

“All these guys that are out here deserve it, they had great careers for us,” stated head coach Russ Huesman.  “They all dream about playing in the NFL and for them to get looked at today is huge.  I was very impressed.  I thought they all looked good.”

All four players took part in a number of lifting and agility drills, including the 40-yard dash, L-drill, pro shuttle and short shuttle.  They also worked on specific position drills that included ball-catching.

“I thought it went pretty well, it was very quick though,” stated Wise, the first four-time All-Southern Conference performer in school history.  “I wasn’t expecting it to go that fast.  I wish I could get one more on the L-drill and the shuttle, but overall it went well and I had fun.”

A few dozen teammates, coaches and former players come out to watch, including current Cleveland Brown Buster Skrine (’10) and Cincinnati Bengal Chris Lewis-Harris (’11).

Each of these Mocs has been training hard since the end of last season, hoping to put on a good performance today.  “After the season, I basically prepared,” explained Key.  “I graduated, got my degree, and I’ve been working hard every day since then.”

Such preparation can put a lot of pressure on the Pro Day performance, but according to Dothard, you have to put that out of your mind.  “Oh yeah it’s a lot of pressure.  It’s way different from being in a game.  The biggest thing is to relax and have fun and not to get out here and stress and worry about trying to look good.  Just go out there and do everything fluently.”

The Mocs continue Spring Practice tomorrow afternoon at Scrappy Moore Field.  Their next scrimmage is Friday at Finley Stadium at 4:00 p.m.  The Spring Game is set for Friday, April 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Finley Stadium.
