Mocs Announce Spring Game Rosters

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head football coach Russ Huesman announced the rosters for the 2011 Blue & Gold Spring Game today.  Presented by the soon-to-be opened Downtown Hampton Inn & Suites, the Blue & Gold Spring Game is set for Saturday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at Finley Stadium.

The Mocs wrapped up their last practice of the spring on Wednesday and are hosting their annual Football Alumni Golf Tournament at Valleybrook on Friday.  Action begins on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a FREE Kid's Clinic open to all youth ages 14 & under.

"I like to make this a gameday atmosphere as much as possible," commented Huesman on the Spring Game.  "That makes it fun for the fans and also gives our guys some gameday experience.  Playing in front of 2,000 people in more of a game-like situation is important for our younger guys."

Chattanooga drew nearly 2,500 fans for the 2010 Blue & Gold Spring Game and had a crowd of 1,200 at the 2009 spring game.

The Blue team will consist of the No. 1 offense and the No. 2 defensive unit.  A link to the .pdf of the Blue & Gold Spring Game rosters is available at the top of the page.

Senior B.J. Coleman will lead the Blue offense at quarterback.  He will be joined in the backfield by junior running backs J.J. Jackson and Chris Awuah and senior fullback Thomas Green

"Between J.J. and Chris, they both battled throughout the spring," added Huesman.  "We have been pleased with Awuah and how he has run with the ball.  We think he can be more of a true tailback.  We have always thought the world of J.J. because he can do so many things well."

The Blue offensive line consists of senior Omre Harris, juniors Adam Miller, Austin Wilson, Nick Gipson and Will Hewitt and freshman Taylor Dodds.  Miller will start at right tackle with Gipson at right guard and Wilson at center.  Harris and Hewitt are rotating at left guard while Dodds is penciled in at left tackle.

"Up front, the guy who has come a long way is Nick Gipson," said Huesman.  "He played some for us last year, but he has really come along and done a nice job during the offseason."

Junior Sean Stackhouse will be the tight end on the Blue team while seniors Joel Bradford and Sloan Allison and junior Brian Sutherland make up the receiving corps.

"Obviously, at wideout you start with Joel Bradford," continued Huesman.  "Hopefully Joel makes some big plays.  I hope we can get some deep balls to those guys."

The White team is made up of the Mocs' No. 1 defense and its second offensive group.  Senior Jordan Tippit leads a group of five defensive backs, including fellow senior Chris Lewis-Harris and sophomores Kadeem Wise, D.J. Key and Chaz Moore

"We are really dinged up defensively, but we have everybody in the secondary healthy," stated Huesman.  "The two corners, Chaz Moore and Kadeem Wise, can be as good as any in this league.  They have all had good springs and are quality, quality players."

Senior Ryan Consiglio, junior Shane Heatherly and sophomore Wes Dothard make up the linebacking trio.  Senior Nick Davison and De'Markus Lee and freshmen Zach Rayl and Keyon Reed are on the defensive line.

"Our four down guys will look a little different in the fall,' concluded Huesman.  "If Nick Davison continues to practice and do the things the coaches are telling him, he can be a first-team all league tackle."
