CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.-- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football head coach Russ Huesman sat down with the local media Tuesday afternoon at McKenzie Arena to discuss the Mocs win over Western Carolina and their upcoming trip Wofford.

Chattanooga takes on the Terriers in Spartanburg, S.C., at Gibbs Stadium at 1:30 p.m. (E.S.T.). The game will broadcast on ESPN3, the Mocs Radio Network and ESPN Radio 105.1 FM (flagship) with live audio available on

Head Coach Russ Huesman
Thoughts on the win over Western Carolina
"Anytime you go on the road in this league and get a win you have to be excited about it, so good win at Western. Knowing at the end of the game that we were still in contention for a championship made the win even better. We didn't play great in the first half, but I give a lot of credit to Western for that. In the second half we came out and played a lot better. It was a big win and it keeps us alive, in the hunt and we're still playing for a lot."

On using playing for a SoCon championship as motivation
"That is our number one goal. We talk about it throughout the season all the time. When we lost to Georgia Southern I told the team that it isn't over yet because you never know how the weeks are going to unfold."

Thoughts on taking on Wofford for the third straight year with playoff implications looming
"I think the two previous years we were going in not really playing for anything. Now this year we are both playing for something pretty big. So sure, it does help some."

Thoughts on Wofford tailback Eric Breitenstein
"He hurt us pretty bad two years ago. He ran for about 180 yards and last year he ran for another 100-and-something. You just have to hope that he doesn't ever hurt you for a long run like a 60-yard play. No one can stop the kid for a no-yard run. If anybody has a secret, please let me know. You can hit him at the line of scrimmage the next thing you know it's a three-yard gain. He's a very tough player."

On preparing knowing Wofford's quarterback is still injured
"It could affect how we prepare a little bit this week, but I anticipate that they are going to have him ready to go. We are preparing that they are going to have a quarterback who runs the triple option effectively like they do every year. Even if it's their third-string guy, I'm sure he knows how to run the triple option. The only thing we wouldn't know is how the new guy's arm strength is or how fast he is just because we haven't had a chance to see him."

Adam Miller, offensive lineman, senior
On how the offense has improved over the course of the season
"Each week we have been able to work on the mistakes we've made. We're still not where we want to be, but I think we're kind of coming together. We still have a little ways to go but so far the coaches are impressed with the strides we've been making as the season has gone on."

On how much Coach Huesman has talked about winning a SoCon championship
"He's mentioned it. It was one of the things he told us in the team meeting. Every one of us comes here to win a championship. He started our team meeting asking us who had [won a SoCon championship]. And no one had, other than a couple of coaches. He's one of those and he knows what it takes. He's making sure we don't take anything lightly. We had opportunities to take advantage of things a couple of years ago and we didn't take advantage of any of our opportunities that we had. We know that we still have to play Saturday. Wofford is a great team. They have put themselves in great situations in the past and this year as well. It will be a great game on Saturday and, hopefully, we will pull a win out."

On what it would mean to win a SoCon title
"I truly haven't thought about it. I know we still have a lot left to play. There are lots of "if's." I'm not the kind of guy that likes the "if" statements until they are already here. It would be great. We all come to college for championships. The strides we've made since I've been in Chattanooga have brought us into that championship type atmosphere that we want to known for here. We just want to end the season on a great note after getting off to a bad start."

Shane Heatherly, linebacker, senior
On if he likes hearing the talk about a SoCon championship
"I do. It's been a long time coming. We've put a lot of work into it. Our guys have really jelled together. We've put ourselves in a really good position. If we win out we can share a Southern Conference championship, which is something I've always wanted to do here in Chattanooga but never had the opportunity to do. It's a big week just like any other week this season. We just have to stay focused. It's a really good team we are playing against."

On how to handle all the championship talk and focus on beating Wofford
"Honestly you just have to take it in stride. It's not about what everybody is talking about, the noise, the static but doing what you can. You have to control what you can control and make sure you are getting extra film study in. You have to be focused on the opportunity that you have and making the most of it as far as what you can do on the field and not worrying about what is going on off the field. Everybody is going to talk about championships, but at the end of the day if you don't get it done, you won't get talked about until you put yourself in another situation like that."
